Kids tend to accumulate toys and that growth usually accelerates as they enter their teen years. The toys get bigger and more numerous and after a while will outgrow the room that was designed for them. If you have exhausted your inside options and already have a pretty good system going, it might be time to take things to the next level and setup outside storage. You can use a shed or an outdoor box for this, as you do not want the toys to get damaged and also want to keep your yard clutter free. We want to help the mess and not create a new one in another environment, especially one where neighbors can judge us on.
In the beginning I used this for punishment, and took the toys outside but after a while I realized that this can become another option. Many houses and apartment building have places where you can leave things outside. Some town homes come with an outside closet, homes with a shed, and condos with a balcony. All of this space can be utilized with furniture designed for it and it works much better than just putting a couple things on the floor. Utilizing the space and using it is not very hard, and kids will learn an additional organizational skill that they previously did not have. This is always a good thing, and such experience tends to transfer very well into school work as well.

The first you might want to do is design a space, and label the different zones inside of it. One for example could be for larger items, another for summer, winter or small toys. The entire system should make sense, as otherwise no one will want to use it and it will become a waste of time. You can use a variety of different storage materials such as buckets, trash cans, plastic bins or other products. It might make sense to label the areas separately as well if you have more than one child as this will stop any complaining and finger pointing in case someone is not living up to their part of the deal.
All of the items, if hanged, should be within easy reach of the children. Keep things safe so that no one has to climb in order to get anything, and that the equipment will not fall on them either as this could be quite dangerous. Sheds are great because you can put up shelves and make the room look just like a child's walk in closet. This is a great way to teach responsibility and organization skills and is a very good habit for them to have as they grow older.
